Shackleton: Antarctic Odyssey

After reading The White Darkness, my interest in Antarctic exploration was piqued. Nick shackleton_coverBertozzi’Shackleton tells and shows the amazing true story of Ernest Shackleton and his men, all of whom survived the expedition. A myriad of problems stood in their way: ice, deadly crevasses, a sunken ship. The story is a good one, and important details are imparted via graphic reference pages. One page is devoted to the crew’s pictures, drawn in portholes with names and occupations listed. Another page shows the global route on a map with anticipated events (the last is “all shall receive medals and be engaged on speaking tours”). The story is perfectly suited to graphic novel style.
