Selected and illustrated by world-renowned artist Ashley BryanWalk Together imagesChildren:  Black American Spirituals, is complete with music for each song. The linoleum print artwork, stunning in black and white if you can get your hands on a 1974 edition, has companion books published in 2012. Spirituals “expressed the emotions and needs of the enslaved” as Bryan writes in the introduction, which is filled with important historical setting and purpose.
