The Quiet Place

index-1.phpIn the 1950s, many Mexicans crossed the border to live and work in the United States. Sarah Stewart‘s epistolary picture book, The Quiet Place, chronicles Isabel’s adjustment to the midwest by creating a quiet place out of large boxes where she reads and writes letters to her aunt in Mexico.

David Small‘s illustrations capture the spirit of the book, interplaying with the text to evoke an intricate historical story.
