He Came with the Couch

Beware of what comes with a new couch.  In David Slonim’s He Came with the Couch, Sophie’s family learns to live with the statued stranger on the couch who seems more like an extra pillow than a living being.  But when Sophie falls, He surprises everyone by saving her.  This playful story holds up to repeated readings.
